Are We Today’s Pharisees?

Matthew 5:20  “For I say to you, that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Scribes and Pharisees, you shall not enter the kingdom of God."

What were the Pharisees like in Jesus day?

They were committed evangelists.

Matthew 23: 15 "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you travel about on sea and land to make one convert". ..."

They tithed -gave money for God's work.

Matthew 23: 23  “For you tithe mint and dill and cumin…"

They studied the Word of God.

John 5:39 "You search the scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is these that bear witness of Me. "

They were committed to prayer.

Luke 18: 11 "The Pharisee stood and was praying...”

They strictly honored the Sabbath.

Luke 6: 2 "But some of the Pharisees said, "Why do you do what is not lawful on the Sabbath. "

Matthew 16:6 “And Jesus said to them, "Watch out for the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees. "

Luke 12:1 What is the leaven of the Pharisees? Why was Jesus so critical of them?

Luke 11: 37 - 44

How do we imitate the Pharisees today?

How can we guard our hearts and live lives that are pleasing to God?

What does this passage teach us? What does it mean to be servants of Jesus?

Luke 17: 7 -10
