Jorge Wilhelm Riegel

Jorge Wilhelm Riegel (1706 – 1778) – Emigrated from Germany on the ship “Adventure” leaving from Rotterdam and arriving at the port of Philadelphia on September 24, 1732.[1]  He came with his brother Matthias a year before his parents (Johannes and Anna Reigel) and the rest of his family arrived.  He married Anna Marie Plattner in “Little Tulpehocken Church” in Berks County, PA.[2]  Anna also emigrated (when she was 20 years old) from Germany and arrived at the port of Philadelphia on September 21, 1731 on the ship “Britannia” with her parents Hans Jerg and Appolonia and her brothers and sisters.[3]  Jorge and Anna Marie had nine children.  Jorge married Elizabeth after Anna’s death and had two more children.  Jorge became a citizen of the colony on Sept. 15, 1765[4].  He owned a farm of 50 acres in Greenwich Township, Berks County, PA at the time of his death on September 7, 1778.[5]

Much of family history extracted from that church's records....George William lived near his parents during his first marriage since his children were baptized in the Tulpehocken churches. In a 1752 Berks tax list George William 'Reel' appears in Greenwich Township. Upon his death George had a farm of 50acres in Greenwich Township.Probate records at Northumberland County reveal that he also owned a house and lot on the corner of Fourth and Market St. in Sunbury where about 100 years later the Edison  Hotel was built. The two children from the second marriage, Magdelena and Henry, appeared in Berks County Court in 1802 and 1803 respectively to claim their share of the estate.....From: Naturalizations of Foreign Protestants in the American Colonies, page 113, 'George Rigel of Greenwich Twp., Berks Co., PA, became a citizen, Sept 15, 1765.' Anna:Anna Maria, aged 20 entered Pennsylvania on ship Britannia in 1731 with her brother Michael, age 23, a Maria Katherina, age 27, Georg Michel, age2, and Katherina Bladner, age 36. Anna was the daughter of Hans Jerg &Appolonia Blatner.
